Arrival in Leh – Acclimatization & Local Walk

Morning:

  • Arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (Leh) – one of the world’s highest airports (~3,500 m / 11,500 ft).

  • Check in to your hotel or guesthouse (rest is crucial on Day 1 to acclimatize).

  • Recommended hotels: The Grand Dragon Ladakh, The Zen Ladakh, Siala Guesthouse, or Reenam Hotel (depending on budget).

Afternoon (light activity only):

  • After lunch, take a gentle walk to:

    • Leh Market – for local handicrafts, woollens, and souvenirs.

    • Leh Palace – panoramic views of the town.

    • Shanti Stupa – beautiful sunset point overlooking Leh.

Evening:

  • Dinner at a local restaurant (try The Tibetan Kitchen or Gesmo Restaurant).

  • Overnight stay in Leh.

Leh → Nubra Valley (via Khardung La Pass)

Morning:

  • After breakfast, drive to Nubra Valley (125 km, ~5–6 hrs).

  • Cross Khardung La Pass (17,582 ft) – one of the world’s highest motorable roads.

    • Stop briefly for photos (don’t stay too long due to altitude).

Afternoon:

  • Descend into Nubra Valley, also known as the Valley of Flowers.

  • Visit Diskit Monastery and see the giant Maitreya Buddha statue.

  • Explore Hunder Sand Dunes – enjoy a camel ride on Bactrian (double-humped) camels.

Evening:

  • Dinner and overnight stay in Hunder or Diskit (options: Stone Hedge, Nubra Ecolodge, or local camps).

  • Enjoy a bonfire and clear starry skies.

Nubra → Pangong Lake (via Shyok Route)

Morning:

  • Early breakfast, then drive to Pangong Lake (160 km, ~6 hrs via Shyok route).

  • Enjoy breathtaking Himalayan and river valley views along the way.

Afternoon:

  • Reach Pangong Tso Lake (13,860 ft) – world-famous for its changing blue hues and 3 Idiots movie spot.

  • Take photos by the lake and relax in the serene environment.

Evening:

  • Stay overnight at Pangong Lake Camps (The Wooden Nest, The Regal Camp, or High Lake Camp).

  • Enjoy the surreal view of stars reflecting on the lake at night.

Pangong → Leh (via Chang La Pass)

Morning:

  • After breakfast, drive back to Leh (about 150 km / 5 hrs).

  • En route, cross Chang La Pass (17,586 ft) – another high mountain pass.

  • Stop at Thiksey Monastery (often compared to Tibet’s Potala Palace) and Shey Palace.

Afternoon:

  • Return to Leh by evening.

  • Free time for last-minute shopping or café hopping.

Evening:

  • Dinner and overnight stay in Leh.

  • Next morning: departure from Leh airport.
