Arrival in Kaza & Local Monasteries
Morning:
Arrive in Kaza (the main town of Spiti Valley).
If coming from Manali: via Kunzum Pass (4551 m) – about 9–10 hrs drive.
If from Shimla/Tabo: scenic drive along the Spiti River.
Check in to your hotel/homestay (Zostel Kaza, Hotel Deyzor, The Himalayan Café Stay are great options).
Rest and acclimatize to the high altitude (~3,800 m).
Afternoon:
Visit nearby Key Monastery (Kye Gompa) – Spiti’s most famous monastery, perched on a hill with panoramic valley views.
Head to Kibber Village (4,200 m) – one of the highest inhabited villages in the world.
Spot Himalayan Blue Sheep or Ibex if lucky!
Evening:
Return to Kaza, explore the local market and cafés (The Himalayan Café or Taste of Spiti).
Overnight stay in Kaza.
Kaza → Langza → Hikkim → Komic (Spiti’s High Villages Loop)
Morning:
After breakfast, start your Spiti Village Circuit (total loop ~40 km).
Visit Langza Village – known for its giant Buddha statue and ancient marine fossils.
Proceed to Hikkim Village – home to the world’s highest post office.
Drive to Komic Village – one of the world’s highest villages connected by road.
Afternoon:
Lunch in a local home or café in Komic (try local Thukpa or Momos).
Enjoy stunning views of snow-clad peaks and barren Spiti landscapes.
Return to Kaza by evening.
Evening:
Relax in Kaza; you can walk by the Spiti River or visit the local monastery.
Overnight stay in Kaza.
Kaza → Dhankar Monastery & Lake → Departure
Morning:
Check out after breakfast and head towards Dhankar Village (25 km).
Visit Dhankar Monastery – dramatically set on a cliff overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers.
Optional short trek (45 mins) to Dhankar Lake, a beautiful high-altitude lake above the village.
Afternoon:
Lunch in Dhankar and then depart toward Tabo / Manali / Shimla depending on your onward route.
